Eight years ago in 2010, I created what started out as just a mobile business out of the back of my truck into the brick and mortar store known today as Janie’s Emporium. I dreamed of owning a business and I remember thinking about my grandmother, the late "Miss Janie," and how she had several businesses in the 1950's, owning her own hair salon, selling real estate and Avon products. I too share the same entrepreneurial spirit as she did and although my background was in social work, I always had this passion for fashion and I knew that in life this was my true calling and the best way to showcase my inner creativity.
With a lot of hard work, perseverance and determination, In February of 2013, I was able to use this drive to open my first retail boutique Janie’s Emporium located right in the heart of Kenmore, New York to not only honor my grandmother but to create a legacy. At Janie's Emporium, we take our customers on a trip around the world by granting them with the opportunity to purchase unique, one of a kind handcrafted jewelry, accessories, apparel, bath & body products, wellness teas, and other specialty gift items from local and international artisans. We also carry many fair trade items as well.
In September of 2015, I started working my business full time and I haven’t looked back since. I wanted to inspire others which I’m now able to do as a professor in fashion design and merchandising at Villa Maria College in Buffalo, NY. I’m able to give back to the community as a business mentor and coach, helping entrepreneurs who are looking to start and create their own business by giving them the guidance that has helped Janie’s Emporium become the success that it is today.
