It Takes A Village

“Originality is the essence of true scholarship. Creativity is the soul of the true scholar”
— Nnamdi Azikiwe

Do you recall that old proverb, “it takes a village to raise a child”? Every child needs guidance and support from others around them that will allow a child to flourish and become an individual that everyone can be proud of. Some children may not be as fortunate as others and seek guidance from outside sources that can help bring great knowledge and encouragement to succeed. Scholarships are created by many companies and organizations to assist students financially who are pursuing a higher educational degree. Scholarships can aid in covering many college expenses. That can help students to focus on their studies instead of having to carry the burden of figuring out how to afford college.

At Janie’s Emporium the inspiration behind countless ideas are dedicated to the late Miss Janie Taggart, who was the grandmother of the owner Alisha Taggart-Powell. As a powerful and successful entrepreneur, her spirit and values of education as well as self-sufficiency still live on through her granddaughter.  Miss Janie supported and encouraged her children to pursue an education. She created multiple business ventures such as owning and operating a hair salon, becoming an Avon representative and even selling Real estate. Alisha has been honoring those values of self-sufficiency by obtaining an education and receiving a full tuition scholarship in support of her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Buffalo. As a scholarship recipient, she was inspired to create a scholarship fund called the “Jane Taggart Legacy Scholarship Fund” in efforts to support high school aged students pursuing a college education. Starting a scholarship fund for students is important to Alisha because “it is an opportunity to open the doors to unlimited possibilities for our youth”.

“I believe it is my job and responsibility to be able to breathe life back into our communities”
— Alisha-Taggart-Powell

The Jane Taggart Legacy Scholarship Fund will award a Western New York high school student a partial scholarship as they pursue a four year degree. Students will need to have at least an 85% average and show promise in their future career.

“The scholarship is a way for my business to give back to our community” Alisha states. As local businesses are rooted into the community it is beneficial for them to show customers that they are reinvesting into that same environment that supports them. Through the scholarship, recipients are able to benefit in the long run which in return will create an opportunity for them to be able to pursue a degree. Receiving the Legacy Scholarship Fund will also give students a new sense of value as well as community because they will be made aware of all of the fundraising and other activities that was involved in supporting their education. Through in-house purchases at Janie’s Emporium, many of the proceeds collected will go towards funding the scholarship. Fundraising efforts for the scholarship fund will begin in January of 2018.

The future for the Jane Taggart Legacy Scholarship Fund is looking bright with hopes and visions of collaborating with other community based organizations. These efforts will contribute to our youth’s education and provide support and guidance as a village.

Traveling around the world and embarking on adventures to different and unique destinations is a goal that everyone should have on their bucket list. When you are able to immerse yourself in a different atmosphere and culture you learn a lot more about yourself and others through the people and experiences you create an encounter. Each new adventure can entice the senses and broaden the mind, giving new meaning to your life journey.  Allow yourself to step outside your comfort zone and visit the temples in Thailand and tour the Taj Mahal in India. Who knows, you may return home with a newfound interest or hobby that you would have never discovered without traveling and broadening your horizons.

“To travel is to take a journey into yourself”-Danny Kaye

Traveling is a positive way to create new memories but to also rejuvenate your body’s energy and balance both physically and mentally. By traveling to unique destinations, you are able to sharpen your mind and discover a new perspective of the world that will ultimately strengthen you to become your greater self. Enticing your senses with the sounds, sights, and smells of each new experience may inspire a change in the way that you live life.

THE BUSINESS OF DREAMS

LEWISTON, NEW YORK

LEWISTON, NEW YORK

“ I am my own individual person, there's only one blueprint for me and my visions”

- Alisha J. Taggart Powell

Reality is a composition of the personal truths, expectations and the paradigms you choose to fulfill. If the world tells you that it is unconventional to align your professional goals with your dreams you have to choose whether or not that will be a truth you accept. You have the power to decide whether that is something you'll be limited by.

A common conversations topic here at the Emporium is the unapologetic pursuance of one’s purpose and life aspirations. As a boss and vision guru our owner believes that “now is a good time to work for yourself…there is a rise in the number of Women CEOs and entrepreneurs ” meaning there is no excuse, and the only thing standing in your way is you. In addition to the emporium she is a voice actor, business coach, and mentor not to mention a charismatic speaker, all facets of her dreams.

“ As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others”

- By Marianne Williamson

Be that light in your community, your family, even your industry that enables others to do the same. Here at the boutique we encourage the flow of creativity, collaboratively curating a space that pushes everyone to pursue their dreams and the greatest version of themselves. Unfortunately in business there is still a dominating belief in competition that stagnates the flow of information and inspiration. A belief based around fear that one’s success will be destroyed by the success of others. But times are shifting and currency and timeless ventures are no longer dependent on isolation but rather the coming together of ideas and visions to create something larger. Not to mention products and events that serve you on a personal level. Here is where we shamelessly insert a blurb about our products and how we put effort into selecting items that serve you and your purpose.

“Many times you will feel that you are alone and that no one gets your vision, surround yourself in an environment that does”- Alisha J. Taggart-Powell

The journey of life naturally embodies growth and change. In the present moment what are you doing to get where you wanna be in the future?  Are you taking care to develop a strong foundation to continue forward with your goals? The alignment of the mind, body and spirit with one’s aspirations is a key to personal success. Janie’s Emporium was built on a belief in a lifestyle that sustains personal growth and development. The things you consume, the people and environments you engage in will all leave an impression on the path you choose to go on.

On this path there are many times you will feel that you are alone and that no one gets your vision, so having a healthy community of knowledge, which can serve as a catalyst for your growth, is essential. Like minded people will have a common understanding of the logistics of what you go through. They won’t be doing exactly what your doing but they can relate in methodology and strategy.

The Boutique offers a space for the sharing of information. Having open dialogue, and conversations on life experiences is what we value as we develop life long relationships. We host a series of events like sip and shop, health and wellness forums  or cultural nights to encourage the flow of information which assist in your development as individuals. Our products also reflect the same idea. Throw on the right pair of leggings, scent of oil or drink an invigorating tea and you’ll feel a shift in your mindset as you begin to align with your purpose. Getting dressed for what your about to do is both a physical and a mental preparation.

LIFE IS A PRODUCT is a phrase that embodies the idea that your life is a creation, a product of your actions and choices. It is what you promote to other people simply by existing and doing you.
