The Business of Dreams

“ I am my own individual person, there's only one blueprint for me and my visions”

- Alisha J. Taggart Powell

Reality is a composition of the personal truths, expectations and the paradigms you choose to fulfill. If the world tells you that it is unconventional to align your professional goals with your dreams you have to choose whether or not that will be a truth you accept. You have the power to decide whether that is something you'll be limited by.

A common conversations topic here at the Emporium is the unapologetic pursuance of one’s purpose and life aspirations. As a boss and vision guru our owner believes that “now is a good time to work for yourself…there is a rise in the number of Women CEOs and entrepreneurs ” meaning there is no excuse, and the only thing standing in your way is you. In addition to the emporium she is a voice actor, business coach, and mentor not to mention a charismatic speaker, all facets of her dreams.

“ As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others”

- By Marianne Williamson

Be that light in your community, your family, even your industry that enables others to do the same. Here at the boutique we encourage the flow of creativity, collaboratively curating a space that pushes everyone to pursue their dreams and the greatest version of themselves. Unfortunately in business there is still a dominating belief in competition that stagnates the flow of information and inspiration. A belief based around fear that one’s success will be destroyed by the success of others. But times are shifting and currency and timeless ventures are no longer dependent on isolation but rather the coming together of ideas and visions to create something larger. Not to mention products and events that serve you on a personal level. Here is where we shamelessly insert a blurb about our products and how we put effort into selecting items that serve you and your purpose.

“Many times you will feel that you are alone and that no one gets your vision, surround yourself in an environment that does”- Alisha J. Taggart-Powell

The journey of life naturally embodies growth and change. In the present moment what are you doing to get where you wanna be in the future?  Are you taking care to develop a strong foundation to continue forward with your goals? The alignment of the mind, body and spirit with one’s aspirations is a key to personal success. Janie’s Emporium was built on a belief in a lifestyle that sustains personal growth and development. The things you consume, the people and environments you engage in will all leave an impression on the path you choose to go on.

On this path there are many times you will feel that you are alone and that no one gets your vision, so having a healthy community of knowledge, which can serve as a catalyst for your growth, is essential. Like minded people will have a common understanding of the logistics of what you go through. They won’t be doing exactly what your doing but they can relate in methodology and strategy.

The Boutique offers a space for the sharing of information. Having open dialogue, and conversations on life experiences is what we value as we develop life long relationships. We host a series of events like sip and shop, health and wellness forums  or cultural nights to encourage the flow of information which assist in your development as individuals. Our products also reflect the same idea. Throw on the right pair of leggings, scent of oil or drink an invigorating tea and you’ll feel a shift in your mindset as you begin to align with your purpose. Getting dressed for what your about to do is both a physical and a mental preparation.

LIFE IS A PRODUCT is a phrase that embodies the idea that your life is a creation, a product of your actions and choices. It is what you promote to other people simply by existing and doing you.

Alisha is the owner and fashion curator of Janie’s Emporium in Kenmore NY.  A woman of many dexterities and trades she opened up the Emporium in 2010 while working at the UB School of Nursing. “ I always knew I wanted to open my own business” said Alisha, “ I wanted to work for myself ”. She did, and quickly learned how to put her boots on the ground and research where to source her products for her vision. Alisha even created pop up shops in her early years specializing in Jewelry. She soon found herself traveling to New York City and Canada attending trade shows and local events looking for beautiful unique items to sell. It was a lot of smoke and mirrors in the beginning but she has been able to stay resilient, trust her intuition and believe in the growth of her vision.

“ My grandmother was a businesswoman, ... and my mother was a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology”

The elements of her vision were influenced by her grandmother and mother, two powerful woman who put their creativity and business savvy into play into their life careers. “ When I was younger you would always find me flipping through my mother's sketches and fabric swatches” commented Alisha when asked when her passion started. Ms. Taggart, her mother, also hand made a lot of Alisha’s clothing when she was little so she is not foreign to the concept of personal style and fit. Alisha also grew up watching her grandmother, Jane, run multiple businesses at once while making a positive impact in her community. The legacy of her late grandmother was the driving inspiration to the name Janie’s Emporium.
